Services
Individuals and Couples
Whether you are working through any of the following,
I am here for you:
● Life transitions
● Anxiety
● Depression
● Trauma
● Grief
● Stress
● Challenges with chronic pain/disease
● Interpersonal relationship challenges
● Wanting to explore yourself
● Mental health challenges
Using primarily an Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Nonviolent Communication approach as well as mindfulness practices, we will meet either in the forest, the gardens or on zoom.
Together, we will develop a relationship that is boundaried, safe and that offers unconditional support for you to express yourself and learn tools for healing, self-integration, self regulation and co-regulation.
Parent/Family Support
I love to support new (and experienced) parents who choose (or are considering
choosing) alternative and non-mainstream parenting and lifestyles.
I primarily adopt the principles and tools of Nonviolent Communication (based on the work of Dr. Marshall Rosenberg).
If any of these terms speak to you, then we might be a match:
- Attachment parenting
- Conscious parenting
- Family bed/co-sleeping
- Extended breastfeeding
- homeschooling/unschooling/worldschooling
- Nonviolent Communication (NVC)
- Non-traditional family systems
Life Transitions
Creative Support/ Existential/Spiritual/ Personal Exploration:
I am drawn to those who choose creative, non-mainstream careers/lifepaths. I
enjoy meeting with folks who are wanting to support themselves through their creative work (aristst/musicians/dancers/performers/chefs/entrepeneurs,etc). We will work together so that you can feel secure and successful in your life and career choices.
Psychedelic Preparation/Integration and Support:
Psychedelic preparation/integration work supports the process of experiencing altered states of consciousness, within a therapeutic frame.
In therapy, you can get curious about what else is possible. Intentionally preparing for your psychedelic journey is a crucial part of the process. Ensuring that all your parts are consenting, resourcing yourself for the unknown, setting intentions… There are many ways to prepare before your journey. Having a safe container to share your experiences and
analyze the connections to your life, integration sessions offer a non-judgmental, and confidential space to process non-ordinary states and their potential for personal transformation.
If you are existentially curious about why you are here now and are interested in adopting a mindful living approach to wellness, through experiential, relational therapy, then let’s talk!
The Outdoor Therapy Model
Using the beautiful resources offered by The Royal Botanical Gardens (RBG), we can choose to meet at Cherry Hill trailhead, Hendrie Gardens (The Rose
Garden), the Rock Garden, Laking Garden or the Arboretum. You can choose your preferred comfort and experience – whether it is a hike on the Cherry Hill trail or a flat surface walk in the Rose Garden. There are many benches to rest and talk, both on the trail and in the gardens.Parking and entry into the gardens and trails will be covered in the cost of the therapy session.
We could also meet at Spencer Smith Park, Lasalle Park or Bayfront Park in Hamilton.
If there is inclement weather on the day of your session, we can choose to meet inside the RBG in the wam and fragrant indoor Mediteranean gardens, meet virtually, or inside my cozy office on the second floor of The Fitness Firm, located at 15 Plains Rd. in Aldershot ( at Waterdown Rd).
Carolyn’s Fees:
$180/session, tax included (cost of parking and entrance to RBG included in fee).
Carolyn’s services are covered under many insurance benefits plans that offer the services of
social work. Please check with your provider for coverage.
Please note that I keep a percentage of sliding scale spots.
INTEGRITY-BASED SLIDING SCALE FRAMEWORK
Therapy fees are offered on an integrity-based scale, guided by access to care, cost-of-living pressures, and financial flexibilty rather than income alone. This fee scale is offered in the spirit of fairness and mutual trust. You are invited to choose the rate that best reflects your current capacity and life circumstances. Rates may be revisited collaboratively if circumstances change. Community-supported rates help subsidize reduced-fee sessions and support equitable access to therapy.
If you are interested in accessing counselling and would like to explore whether one of the sliding scale rates is available, please feel free to contact me. If there are no spots available in your fee range, you can choose to be added to a waitlist.
LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
The lands I am privileged to live and work upon are located within the traditional territories of the Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabe nations covered under the Between the Lakes Treaty, No. 3 (1792) and protected by the Dish with One Spoon Wampum Agreement. This agreement was one in which the lands were to be shared and resourced with respect to the health of both the ecosystems and the people. Because I live on the border of two cities, I also live and practice on the ancestral, treaty and title lands of the Ojibwe and the Michizaagiig Nation, now known as the Mississaugas of the Credit. I recognize and appreciate the original peoples' continued stewardship and advocacy for the protection of our more-than-human world. I am so thankful for the story keepers who have protected a worldview that recognizes the more-than-human world as kin. I am committed to the continued acknowledgement and awareness of the trauma and genocide that occured here as well as acting in every way possible, to the best of my ability and awareness, to honor these First Nations, accept responsibility for my own and my ancestors complicity in this ongoing conquest, and make every effort to learn more, understand greater, and do better at contributing to the creation of a right and reparative relationship with this place and it’s indigenous people and all those oppressed by white supremacy, capitalism, and patriarchy.
